Why Acoustic Panels Alone Aren’t Enough

Why Acoustic Panels Alone Aren’t Enough

You’ve added acoustic panels. You’ve treated your walls. But your audio still sounds… off.

What most people don’t realize is this: your floor might be the problem.

The Hidden Source of Bad Audio

Sound doesn’t just travel through air — it also travels through solid surfaces.

Your floor carries:

  • vibrations from speakers
  • footsteps
  • desk movement
  • mic stand resonance

This creates unwanted noise that affects your recordings.

What Is Impact Noise?

This type of noise is called impact noise.

Unlike echo, it doesn’t bounce — it travels through structure.

That’s why even a fully treated room can still sound noisy.

Why Acoustic Panels Alone Aren’t Enough

Acoustic panels absorb sound in the air, but they don’t stop vibration coming from the floor.

So you might fix echo… but still hear:

  • low rumble
  • subtle shaking
  • unclear bass

The Fix: Isolate Your Setup

The solution is simple: stop vibration before it spreads

💥 Use Soundproof Mats

Soundproof mats are designed to:

  • absorb impact energy
  • reduce vibration transfer
  • stabilize your setup

👉 This results in cleaner, tighter audio instantly.

Use them under:

  • speakers / subwoofers
  • desk legs
  • mic stands
  • instruments

🎯 Real Difference You’ll Notice

After adding isolation:

✔ clearer recordings
✔ tighter bass response
✔ less background noise
✔ more “professional” sound

🔥 Pro Setup (Upsell)

For best results, combine:

  • wall panels → reduce echo
  • door treatment → block leakage
  • soundproof mats → eliminate vibration

👉 This creates a complete acoustic setup

Final Tip

If your room still sounds bad… don’t just look at your walls.

👉 Look down.

What's the difference between impact and airborne noise? 🔊

1. Airborne Noise

  • This travels through the air, like conversations, TV sounds, or barking dogs. When sound waves hit a building, they cause it to vibrate, transmitting through the structure.

2. Impact Noise

  • This results from physical impacts on buildings, such as footsteps, slamming doors, or moving furniture. Impact noise can be harder to isolate, as these vibrations are stronger and travel further through dense materials.

What are decibels? 📏

Decibels are measured logarithmically (not as a percentage) . This means that every increase of 10dB on the scale is a tenfold increase in sound pressure level (SPL) . Near silence is 0dB 🤫, while a sound at 10dB is ten times louder!

  • 30-40 dB = Soft music, whisper 🎶
  • 60-80 dB = Office noise, traffic 🚗
  • 85-100 dB (HARMFUL) = Subway, shouted convo, chainsaw ⚠️
  • 100-140 dB (DANGEROUS) = Chainsaw, loud concert, racing, shooting range 🚨
