Absorber, diffuser, or sound-blocking? Read this first

Three different jobs. This kit is an absorber: acoustic foam soaks sound up — perfect for taming echo, harsh reflections, and overall loudness inside a room. A diffuser instead scatters reflections to keep a room lively rather than dead. Sound-blocking — stopping noise passing between rooms — is a different problem again, and foam on a wall does not do it (that's a wall-assembly job, and the biggest leak is usually the gap around your door). Most great rooms use foam where echo lives, and door kits where sound leaks. We'd rather you buy the right thing once than return the wrong one.

Technical reference — NRC, STC, and what foam actually does

Two acoustic numbers come up when people shop for wall panels:

• NRC (Noise Reduction Coefficient): how much sound a material absorbs. Acoustic foam typically runs around NRC 0.45–0.90 depending on thickness — thicker foam absorbs more, especially lower frequencies. This is the number that matters for taming echo and in-room loudness.
• STC (Sound Transmission Class): how much sound a full wall assembly blocks between rooms. STC describes the wall (studs, drywall, insulation) — not foam mounted on it. So this kit, like any wall foam, carries no meaningful STC rating and will not "soundproof" between rooms on its own.

Honest answer: this kit's job is absorption — killing echo and harsh reflections so your room sounds clearer and your recordings sound cleaner. It does not block noise leaking between rooms.
