Absorb or block? Read this first

Two different jobs. An absorber like this foam soaks up reflections inside a room — it kills echo, flutter, and that hollow ring, so the room sounds tighter and recordings sound cleaner. It does not block sound from passing through a wall to the next room. Stopping noise between rooms is a job for mass and sealing (a full wall assembly, door kits, soundproofing barriers) — that's STC, and no foam tile carries a meaningful STC rating. If your goal is a better-sounding room, this is the right tool. We'd rather you buy the right thing once than return the wrong one.

How many do you need? For a desk or vocal-recording corner, most buyers start with 12 tiles (about 12 sq ft / 1.1 sq m). For a full room treatment, cover first-reflection points and one or two walls — you don't need to wallpaper the whole room.

Install in 4 steps

Technical reference — NRC, STC, and what foam does

Two acoustic numbers come up when people shop for wall panels:

• NRC (Noise Reduction Coefficient): how much sound a material absorbs. These adhesive foam tiles typically sit around NRC 0.45–0.90 depending on thickness and profile depth — thicker, deeper-profile tiles absorb more, especially in the mid and high range. This is the number that matters for taming echo inside a room.
• STC (Sound Transmission Class): how much sound a full wall assembly blocks between rooms. STC describes the wall (studs, drywall, mass, sealing), not a tile mounted on it — so no foam tile, ours included, carries a meaningful STC rating.
