Two acoustic numbers come up when people shop for wall panels:

• NRC (Noise Reduction Coefficient): how much sound a material absorbs. Decorative PET felt typically sits around NRC 0.30–0.55 depending on thickness and the air gap behind it. For comparison, thick premium acoustic foam runs higher (roughly NRC 0.70–0.95) — that's the trade-off between "looks like marble on the wall" and "maximum absorption."
• STC (Sound Transmission Class): how much sound a full wall assembly blocks between rooms. STC describes the wall (studs, drywall, insulation), not a panel mounted on it — so no decorative panel, ours included, carries a meaningful STC rating.
